Given the importance of high-tech products in
international trade, the centrality of new scientific
technology in national security, the discussions
about job retraining in the context of
globalization, and the continual debate about
the best government policies to handle these
issues, the study of innovation in products and
processes hardly needs justification. What does
need justification is the need for a new approach
to such study, one that opens a new
set of theoretical questions and answers, and
that provides the basis of a much more comprehensive,
interdisciplinary theory about
these issues.
